The Warwickshire Cricket Board’s Indoor Cricket Championship is now underway in five areas of the County, thanks to the support of G4S Secure Solutions and Sport England’s Sportsmatch funding programme.
Six-a-side leagues have begun in Bournville, Coventry, Handsworth and Stratford-upon-Avon, with a fifth league at Tudor Grange in Solihull starting on Sunday 27th January. All five leagues are fully subscribed and are played with an ‘Incrediball’ to make it accessible to cricketers of all abilities. 38 teams are participating.
Darren Franklin, Cricket Development Officer at the Warwickshire Cricket Board, said: “WCB Indoor Cricket is designed to increase participation amongst those aged 14 years plus, providing opportunities for clubs, schools, colleges, work mates and friends to all enter teams.
“These increased opportunities to participate have been fully supported by G4S Secure Solutions – Warwickshire CCC’s official community partner, Sport England and the Bill Lloyd Memorial Trust Fund.
“The funding has allowed the Championships to operate leagues across Birmingham and Warwickshire, therefore helping us attract new teams and players to indoor cricket and the game in general. We are very grateful to all three partners for their support.”
A Finals Day for the Warwickshire Indoor Championships is set to be held at the Edgbaston Indoor Centre on Sunday 28th April. Here, the winners of the five leagues and an all stars team will compete to be crowned 2013 Champions.
Eric Alexander, Managing-Director of Events at G4S Secure Solutions, said: “We are delighted to support the Indoor Championships and the popularity of the programme speaks for itself with all five leagues fully subscribed! “At G4S, we are really passionate about the accessibility of sport to people of all ages, regardless of ability, because it’s in keeping with our principles of investing in communities and helping people to reach their potential. Indoor cricket is a fantastic way to build up and be a part of a team in a healthily competitive environment, be it with friends, colleagues or people you’ve not yet met. No matter what level of skill you have, anyone can get involved.
“Everyone at G4S Secure Solutions wishes all teams the very best of luck in the run up to Final Day in April!”
