On a surprisingly balmy Sunday morning in Birmingham, members from Moseley Cricket Club swapped their helmets for hammers and their bats for brushes, as volunteers pulled together to prepare their club for the forthcoming season.

After meeting up early to catch up over a bacon sandwich and a brew, it was straight down to work. Jobs for volunteers included painting the dressing rooms, repairing the seating area, repainting the steps and exterior walls, clearing the cellar, and a general tidy up of the club house. But it was constructing the new portable batting cage that provided the largest task for volunteers, which was completed, amazingly, without any bits left over!

Club Chairman, Dick Chase, who organised the day, commented: “It was amazing how much was achieved in such a short space of time. The women in particular were full of enthusiasm, they didn’t spill any paint on the carpet (although quite a bit appears to have got on the captain!) and have made a real contribution. It bodes well for their season.”

Ladies Manager, Stephanie Jobson, added: “It’s great to get involved with projects like this - it really makes you feel part of your club and it’s nice to give something back. Even the kids were involved, which gives the club a great family feel. We’ll definitely enjoy our newly painted dressing rooms this season!”
