WCB Groundsmanship Awards

Warwickshire CCC’s Head Groundsman, Gary Barwell, was the star attraction of the WCB’s groundsmanship awards recently. Gary has become an active member of the Warwickshire Groundsman Association (WGA) and gave a talk on his experiences so far at Edgbaston and shared his top tips for tip top wickets. Although working at the top tier of professional groundsmanship Gary was able to relate to grass roots volunteers and make his knowledge applicable to them, providing common sense and budget solutions to real and common problems.

Groundcare Awards were presented by Gary to Keith Bennett, Groundsman at Moseley CC and to Matthew Tibbitts, one of the team of groundsmen from Knowle Village CC.

The evening was attended by 16 groundsmen representing Knowle Village, Moseley, Hampton & Solihull, Stratford, Leamington, Wellesbourne, Lapworth, Standard, Ansley, Coventry & NW and Nether Whitacre, which made for a good evening. However, that is a very small minority of the County’s groundsmen, strange that so many clubs were willing to miss out on a highly informative and enjoyable evening.
