The WCB will be running a number of youth competitions for both boys and girls for the upcoming season.
Boys Youth Competition
Using the feedback we received from both clubs and the National Playing survey, we have made a few changes in an attempt to enhance the provision of boys competitions for 2015. The playing survey highlighted the ‘drop out’ of young players at 15/16 years of age. The frequent reasons for these drop outs was that young cricketers wanted to play shorter formats of the game and play more with their friends.
To address this issue we increased the number of competitions between the ages 16 and 19 with the main aim being player retention.
Please see below for changes to previous competitions:
- Under 9’s hardball league - the final format will depend on the entry level.
- All Non Fixed date leagues will be moved to “ Play in weeks”. This will allow the home team to nominate a day to play the game in the requisite week. The affects the Under 9, 10, 12, 14, 15 ( League) and 19 competitions.
- Under 16’s League - will be played on regional basis on a Friday Evening.
- Under 19’s League - Please note the entry fee for this league is £50 per team – however this fee will include 6 x pink match balls and a place on a cricket activators course for the team Captain or nominated representative. The aim of the course is to get sides thinking how they can make the game an event that young people would like to attend (as a player or spectator). In addition as we will use “play in weeks” for this as it will allow the possibility of using a Sunday afternoon to make a social event of the game.
