Eaton Gordon is looking forward to hosting the 2022 ACE Programme Open Day at Handsworth Cricket Club on 3rd June. “There’s going to be plenty of free holiday fun and cricket for everyone!” the WCB Community Cricket Development Manager announces, as he explains more about the Open Day and the ACE (African & Caribbean Engagement Programme).

“We will be building on the success of a great day last year when we initially launched the ACE Programme in the West Midlands. To mark the start of our second year, we will be celebrating new opportunities for young people of African and Caribbean heritage to participate in cricket. On 3rd June, in addition to taster cricket sessions, skills challenges and training with role models, there will also be music and food as part of a free day of family fun at Handsworth Cricket Club.”

Eaton recognises the importance of staying healthy and the benefits of participation in sport. “You don’t need to have played cricket before to come and join in at the Open Day. I would urge anyone who would just like to find out a bit more about cricket, or give it a try, to come down and join in. Our experienced coaches are used to coaching girls and boys who are completely new to cricket, and they will make sure the sessions are fun.”

The timetable for the ACE Programme Open Day on 3rd June will run as follows

  • 1pm – 2.30pm session for 8-12 year olds
  • 3pm – 4.30pm session for 13-18 year olds
  • Venue – Handsworth Cricket Club, Hinstock Road, Handsworth, Birmingham, B20 2EU

The ACE Programme is a charity working to increase participation in cricket by young people of African and Caribbean heritage. The West Midlands became the second centre for the ACE Programme nationally in 2021. Since then, the programme has run in local schools, providing coaching and a clear pathway to ACE sessions at Handsworth Cricket Club and beyond.
