Ever wondered about the Laws of Cricket and wanted to know more? Want to umpire either for your club or as a league registered umpire in senior or junior cricket?
Warwickshire County Association of Cricket Officials will be holding Level One umpiring courses in the county from January 2017 onwards. The course will help you qualify as an umpire and allow you to support the game in much needed and valued capacity. Players of all ages always appreciate the presence of a fully qualified umpire to help the game run smoothly.
There is a choice of course to try and suit everyone who is interested with sessions held on Saturday mornings (9.30 am to 12 noon) and Monday evenings (7.15 pm to 9.45 pm) at either Edgbaston or in Bedworth at the Newdigate Social Club. The course lasts ten weeks and our team of experienced umpire tutors will take you through all the laws of cricket and help you to qualify as a fully knowledgeable umpire for the 2017 season.
The Saturday course will start on Saturday 7th January 2017 and finish on Saturday 11th March with the Monday courses starting on Monday 9th January 2017 and finishing on Monday 13th March. The examination is held on each of the above finish dates.
The cost of the course is £60 and this includes first year membership of the Warwickshire County Association of Cricket Officials. There is a further option that is recommended for those who want to umpire competitive cricket at any level in taking out membership of the ECB Association of Cricket Officials. For an additional £20 you can have discounted first year membership which also covers the full cost of any DBS (Safeguarding) check which is essential for umpiring in senior and junior leagues as well as providing insurance cover travelling to and from as well as actually umpiring games. The membership also provides access to official ECB ACO clothing.
There is already a healthy demand for places on the courses so if you are interested please contact David Johnson who is the Warwickshire County Education Officer for umpiring through e mail: [email protected] or by phone on 07976 100473. The closing date for applications is on Monday 12th December 2016 in order that course materials are ordered in good time for the start of the course.
