Bridging the Gap Between Grass Roots Cricket and the Development of Excellence Programme
As part of the England and Wales Cricket Board’s national Strategy, District Cricket is now an integral part of the development pathway for our young cricketers around the country. This level of cricket allows the Warwickshire Cricket Board to create more opportunities for the younger age groups and it will also help more players to reach their full potential by playing a longer and more competitive game. It is also an excellent opportunity for players who have previously not been selected for the county squad to prove their quality by performing on a bigger stage against the best in the county. Prior to the district festival (Whitsun week) around 400 young players attend at least eight weeks of coaching at various centres around the county and the players that are here were selected by the district coaches. At the end of the festival, county squads are selected at under 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 and 15, and ‘B’ squads at under 11, 13 and 15. For those players who are not selected, there is the opportunity for further district games during the summer holidays.
