To mark the end of the school year and start of the summer holidays, everyone at the WCB would like to send best wishes to the amazing teachers and participants in our schools’ programmes. We have had some wonderful messages of thanks from pupils and schools, so we would like to send our own messages in return:
- Thank You to all the teachers in the schools we work with for your enthusiasm and support. We have enjoyed working with you this academic year.
- Well Done to our participants in primary and secondary schools for your hard work. Congratulations on everything you have achieved.
- And last but not least - Good Luck to those teachers and pupils who are moving on to new schools. We hope you continue to enjoy playing cricket and learning great life lessons through the game.
The WCB team has worked with over 200 schools this year across Birmingham and Warwickshire. Danny Maskell, WCB Schools Manager, says “It’s been a great year for our WCB Schools’ programme, and teachers tell us we have contributed positively towards getting everything back up and running after the pandemic. Our team of coaches is incredibly dedicated, and they have been delighted to see the progress participants have made, week on week. Feedback from schools tells us that our cricket programme sits very well alongside classroom learning.”
Mina Zahoor, WCB Community Participation Officer, agrees and describes how the schools’ cricket programme has a positive impact on individuals. There are some schools where I have coached the participants for five years and it has been amazing to see how they have grown as people, as well as cricketers. It is always sad to say goodbye to those who are leaving but it is also great to know, as they move on, that you have contributed as a coach to their development during their time at school. I received this letter from one of my Year 11 participants and it completely sums up the impact of our schools’ programme:
“I have enjoyed every single cricket session with you as our coach since Year 7 and it has certainly been an incredible 5 years attending the sessions every week! The humour and the bubbly personality you have brightened every Wednesday of mine and, when I say that every Wednesday I would honestly be looking forward to the sessions after school, I mean it. The amount of memories I have created during every competition shall be embedded in my memory and I now have a 1st place trophy displayed in my room to remember the unforgettable times.”
Danny, Mina and the entire WCB team would like to wish everyone an enjoyable summer holiday. We’re looking forward to being back in schools again in September.
