Competitions

The Warwickshire Cricket Board will be running a variety of Chance to Shine and Kwik Cricket competitions throughout the summer.

Chance to Shine Competitions

Chance to Shine believe strongly in the power of competition. Life is competitive and young people need to learn at an early age how to win and how to lose graciously.

All Chance to Shine schools are required to play a minimum of five inter-school and five intra (between classes) school matches each year.

Many exceed this and last year a total of 80,000 structured matches took place across the Country. Matches that they simply would not have played before Chance to Shine.

Some feedback that Chance to Shine have received from teachers about taking part in these competitions can be seen below:

  • Pupils are more engaged and organise matches themselves in the playground at break time
  • Improves classroom behaviour as schools make this a requirement if pupils want to participate in cricket competitions
  • Helps pupils develop important life skills such as leadership, teamwork and cooperation
  • Teaches pupils how to win, to lose, and to cope with setbacks

    Kwik Cricket

Kwik Cricket aims to provide children of all levels of ability and experience with an opportunity to regularly participate in a fun, introduction to cricket and to encourage fair play by all. The format is suitable for all ages but is mostly suitable for players under the age of 11.

2015 Key Changes and Review

In 2015 Kwik Cricket has the notable absence of a headline sponsor. Asda are no longer the title sponsor for the Competition. The ECB is currently in the process of finding a suitable organisation regarding the future sponsorship of the programme.

Kwik Cricket, in 2014, saw a growth of 30 per cent across all of the age groups and proved that Kwik Cricket is still recognised as one of the UK’s largest Primary School sporting initiatives. The addition of the Year 4 Competition proved popular in some County Cricket Boards and the excellent weather in 2014 made the season the most successful to date.

In 2015, the Kwik Cricket ‘offer’ will be under review to ensure that it is fit-for-purpose and achieving the outcome of getting more children playing more frequently in teams. This will include the competition, the resources, the equipment, the ability to support teachers within education and opportunity to get more children migrating to cricket clubs.

The Competition

The main Kwik Cricket Competition is open to State Primary and Middle Schools throughout England and Wales. The Competition is open to Independent Schools at the discretion of the CCB. There are school competitions for Year 6, Girls, Year 5 or Year 4.
