Sparkhill A wins Youth and Saltley wins Senior Competition !!!
Yesterday saw our first Chance to Shine holiday competition of 2019 held at Joseph Chamberlain College with 9 teams from 5 projects, 56 youngsters taking part.
Participants for the competition were from 5 Projects Saltley, Bordesley Green, Sparkhill, Walsall and Coventry. The teams were divided into 2 groups which included 4 teams in Juniors and 5 teams in Seniors. The competition was based on Chance to Shine Street 20-ball innings format.
Each team played 6 group games in the Juniors Group. Having won all their group games, Sparkhill A contested the Juniors final against Saltley and rounded of a good day with a 100% record to become the winners of the competition. Teams in the Senior group on the other hand played 4 group games, a play off and 2 semi-finals. Although Sparkhill had topped the group, winning all their group games, but they came unstuck in the semi-final and lost to a Coventry team that throughout the day had progressed their performances with showing excellent skills. Saltley were the other team to make it to the final and became the seniors competition winners beating Coventry.
Some individual awards were handed out to the best bowler and batter of the day from both Junior and Senior groups. Mohammed Jawad was awarded with bowler’s awards, Salman Ramzan with Batter’s from Youth and Saboona Khan was awarded best bowler and Waqar Latif was awarded best batter from the Senior group.
WCB would like to thank the participants and JCC for helping to produce an amazing day of Cricket!
